Questions people ask
Can I still get a Golden Visa by buying property in Spain?+
No. The Golden Visa (investor residence) was abolished with effect from 3 April 2025 by Ley Orgánica 1/2025. Buying property no longer gives residency. Existing holders keep their permits until they expire, and applications filed before that date follow the old rules.
How much income do I need for the non-lucrative visa in 2026?+
€28,800 a year (€2,400 a month) for the main applicant, which is 400% of IPREM, plus €7,200 a year for each family member. You also need private health insurance with no co-payments, and you cannot work, including remotely.
How much do I need to earn for the digital nomad visa?+
The consulates use €2,442 a month, which is 200% of the 2026 minimum wage, plus €916 for the first family member and €305 for each further one. Freelancers can take at most 20% of their income from Spanish clients.
Can British citizens live in Spain after Brexit?+
Yes, but as non-EU nationals. Visitors can stay 90 days in any 180 across Schengen, and owning a home gives no extra days. To stay longer, British buyers use the same routes as other non-EU citizens, most often the non-lucrative or digital nomad visa. Those legally resident before 2021 keep their rights under the Withdrawal Agreement.
What is the Beckham law?+
A special tax regime for people moving to Spain for work who have not been tax resident in the previous 5 years. Spanish work income is taxed at a flat 24% up to €600,000, and most foreign income is not taxed, for the year of arrival plus 5 years. Digital nomads qualify.
